1.0 Release Notes

That's it - Orkward, the space ork dating game, is FINISHED!

It's been crazy hard over the summer to find the time and energy to ge Orkward over the finish line. There were a bunch of things I wanted to add, a couple of extra themes I wanted to cover, and getting to the end was starting to feel impossible.

But I think we're there. I've dropped a bunch of stuff I was vaguely hoping to add but this is fine. The most important thing is that Orkward has a complete story (well, severral complete stories), great artwork, amazing music, an inline-player guide to help demystify some of the goings on, and will now work on touch devices.

That will do.

Orkward is technically open source, so one of the major post-releases tasks will be to tidy up and document the code repo an release a devlog around it. I  doubt anyone will want to look too closely but who knows, maybe it'll be interesting to someone.

Major changes for 1.0:

  • Major revision of Krugg's story
  • Bit of ceremony around player death
  • Player death now preserves objective world state, while resetting subjective stuff. When you die, you enter the same world as a new person.
  • Updated UI
  • Support for touch devices
  • Added an asset preloader and a small load screen
  • Countless bug fixes thanks to my wonderful beta testing volunteers

Finally, as a bit of fun, here's a quick look at some old screenshots of the game.
